Turkish Türkçe is spoken by over 75 million people and thanks to the Turkish diaspora, some two million of them are in Germany and 30 other countries. Its roots are from the Turks of the Central Asian steppelands and it was also heavily influenced by Arabic and Perisan. Turkish Türkçe was changed from the Arabic alphabet to the Latin in 1928. Fun fact: it’s considered impolite to address somebody by just their first name upon meeting them. Instead, use a title such as teyze (auntie) or amca (uncle). If you don’t know somebody’s name, address them as hanımefendi (madam) or beyefendi (sir).
